WORCESTERSHIRE County Council say drivers getting used to revised road layout and the easing of restrictions caused the traffic to be gridlocked…
TRAFFIC this morning was reportedly gridlocked from the Powick roundabout right through St. John s and into the city centre. One resident who was on his way to work said: It took me half an hour to get from Pitmaston Primary School to the motorway. I just couldn t believe it. It usually takes about ten minutes. The council have obviously opened the new part at Carirngton bridge and closed the old part for resurfacing, but I couldn t work out why it was taking so long. The queue was all along Bromwich Road and back into the city centre. It seems the traffic has just been shifted from one side to another!
Worcestershire County Council has opened Carrington Bridge, over the River Severn, to traffic for the first time. To allow the switch-over of traffic to take place onto the new carriageway Temeside Way was closed in both directions from Friday night, with some motorists reporting some traffic delays in the city as a result over the weekend. It has been a two year wait for the project to come to fruition, after almost £55 million of government funding was awarded in 2019 with the aim to provide much needed congestion relief for residents and businesses. Work began in the March of that year.
