The retired Garda believes the decision to charge Hutch will lead to mob boss Daniel Kinahan and other senior gang members in Dubai panicking that they too could be charged with serious offences.
At present, Daniel Kinahan remains a person of interest in three investigations by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.
As Kinahan and fellow cartel lieutenants continue to remain in Dubai, gardai hope to hit them with directing the activities of organised crime gang charges.

Irish authorities have secured a European arrest warrant for Gerry Hutch, 58. Hutch, who is nicknamed ‘The Monk’ thanks to an ascetic lifestyle he picked up in prison, is alleged to be the leader of the Hutch Gang, an organization that has been at war with the Kinahan Organized Crime Group (KOCG), aka the Kinahan Cartel, since 2015.
The warrant for Monk is in connection to the death of David Byrne who was killed when masked gunmen attacked an MGM boxing weigh-in show at Dublin’s Regency Hotel on February 5, 2016. MGM, a company founded by alleged KOCG leader Daniel Kinahan, would later become MTK Global; a leading power-broker in world boxing. Byrne was an alleged top lieutenant in the KOCG.

An Garda SÃochána has investigated the 2016 attack, which was linked to the Kinahan-Hutch feud and significantly escalated that feud, and a file has now been submitted to the DPP about Mr Hutchâs alleged involvement, with a direction issued to charge him.
On the basis of that direction, gardaà applied to the High Court for a European arrest warrant for Mr Hutch, which was granted. The warrant has now been circulated to law enforcement across Europe, with Mr Hutch facing arrest and extradition if located in Europe, though he can fight the process.
