UA Little Rock Celebrates International Day of Women and Girls in Science

News No Comments In celebration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, UA Little Rock has highlighted some of the women in science at UA Little Rock, their amazing research, and their journeys to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Dr. Beth McMillan, Chair of the Department of Earth Sciences I am a geologist who studies landscapes their forms and the processes that shape them. I grew up in Neosho, MO, and attended Colorado College, earning a bachelor’s in Geology. I also attended Colorado School of Mines for a master’s in Environmental Science and Engineering. Finally, I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Ph.D. in Geology.  My husband and I have two children, both will be freshman in the fall 2021. My son will be attending Colorado College, and my daughter will be a freshman at Little Rock Central High School. My hobbies are mostly outdoor related. I love to hike, camp, ride my bike, and travel. 

FCS to remain blended until vaccine cycle is complete

By Steve Keenan The Fayette Tribune Jan 14, 2021 Jan 14, 2021 All schools in Fayette County will remain in the blended learning model until both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered to all school employees who have asked to be vaccinated. The Fayette County Board of Education voted 5-0 in a special meeting Thursday to adopt that approach for the coming weeks. According to Superintendent Gary Hough, the anticipated end of blended learning and the school system s return to full in-person learning will be based on the availability and delivery of vaccines. A group of FCS employees 50-and-over received their first vaccine dose on Friday, Jan. 8. Another 255 will get their initial shot on Friday, Jan. 15.

In October, 41 Action News spoke with Willie Hough, the mother of seven adopted children who all were home at the time a fire broke out at their home. The family s nurse, Cassandra Parnell, helps care for the children who each have a disability. When the October fire started on the porch, Parnell rushed everyone out to safety. While she prevented tragedy then, now she s mourning with family. First the fire, already the health issues, now the death of a mom. Like I said, this is the hub of the family, this is the hub right here, Parnell said.
