Patrick Sullivan had an inkling there was a market for his style of beer.
Yet, when he opened Heart State Brewing Co. in late 2020 and did his first real rollout in January, even he was taken aback when the orders started pouring in.
“It is actually quite surprising,” Sullivan said. “They can’t get enough of it, I guess. And they’re always looking for something new.”
With COVID-19 and infections waning and the state opening up, it’s little surprise people want to safely venture out to indulge in craft beer again, he said.
Heart State takes over 15,000 square feet of space in the Crossroads Commerce Center in Gahanna. A taproom is in the offing, said Sullivan, who also produces small batches of wine and makes Fun Water, an alcoholic seltzer.
Table Talk: Galla Park Steak in Columbus Short North takes modern approach to classic model
At first blush, Galla Park Steak appears different from the clubby, dimly lit chop houses of yore.
Sleek and stylish, using drifting shades of gray, green and pink offset by black accents, cushy booth seating and an active bar area, the Short North’s latest restaurant sports a contemporary, dynamic setting at 900 N. High St.
“We call it a modern steakhouse, if you’re looking for a social, interactive dining experience,” said Adam Solomon, director of Columbus-based Peerless Management Group, which opened Galla Park Steak on April 21.

New building planned for New Albany International Business Park
More industrial usage is planned for the New Albany International Business Park.
NA Innovation Partners LLC, a real-estate company formed by Tenby Partners in Columbus and Oakridge Development Co. in Dublin, is poised to construct a 130,000-square-foot building at the northwest corner of Harrison Road NW and Innovation Way East.
The project is expected to cost $6.75 million and support about 100 employees, according to Michael Loges, New Albany’s economic development manager.
Construction is expected to begin in July and be completed in about a year.
Tyler Ford, founder of Oakridge Development and a partner in NA Innovations Partners LLC, said the company is willing to divide space in the building to a minimum of 26,000 square feet per tenant or lease the entire building to a single user.

In an effort to make the Norton Crossing area a bigger attraction, the city of Whitehall may establish a designated outdoor refreshment area for a section of the mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Broad Street and Hamilton Road.
Under terms of the DORA, the city would allow anyone age 21 and older to buy an alcoholic beverage that would be served in a special cup denoting that the drink is intended for consumption within the DORA boundaries.
City Council is expected to vote on DORA legislation May 4. Until then, Jenna Goehring, Whitehall’s economic development manager, said the public is encouraged to comment on the proposal at whitehall-oh.us.
