Monticello
After the coronavirus caused last yearâs relay to be cancelled, the Jones County community once again gathered at Dean Nelson Track and Field in Monticello for the countyâs Relay for Life event.
Guest speaker for this yearâs event was Carrie Yates of Monticello. Yatesâs story was a little different than others.
Her journey started three years ago when she got a letter in the mail saying while her mammogram was fine, there was some dense tissue they wanted to take a closer look with an additional scan. She ignored the initial letter, but the following year, when she received the same letter after her cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer, she decided to get the scan.
