Mayors from 11 New York cities have called on leadership in the state legislature to enact a stricter gun law in the state.
The letter, addressed to State Senate leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, urges the leaders to take action and pass a law that would hold “bad actors” in the gun industry accountable.
The letter states New York neighborhoods suffer greatly as a result of gun violence with an average of 3,400 people shot and killed or wounded by gunfire each year. The letter also claims gun violence costs the state $5.9 Billion a year, $321 Million of that total the mayors claim are taxpayer dollars.

SCHENECTADY It was the words of Abraham Lincoln that echoed through the mind of retired Air Force Maj. Julia Holcomb as she watched the Vale Cemetery Memorial Day ceremony.
Holcomb is a member of the Vale Cemetery Association’s Board of Directors and a retired Schenectady High School teacher, where she taught U.S. history and social studies. She said Memorial Day is a good opportunity to teach young people about American history, and the role they have to play in America’s future.
A private tree service was hired after emergency services in Schenectady, New York said they would not help the cat that had been stuck high up a tree for at least a week.
