Vicki Briggs and Chris Miller were reelected to the Mexico City Council by sizable margins. Miller received 42 percent of the vote while Briggs took in 37 percent. No other candidate managed more than 9 percent. Keith Louder returns to the Mexico School Board, but voters also picked a new face. Marci Minor received 726 votes to third Scott Nichols’ 524 to take the second available seat. Laddonia voters gave Gary Garnett the edge for mayor over Glenn Jensen. The five person race for the two Board of Aldermen seats must await final certification.

Audrain County voters supported Proposition 1, which extends a quarter-cent sales tax for 10 years. The funding can only be used for the replacement of small road structures and maintenance of bridges. Both Mexico City Council incumbents, Vicki Briggs and Chris Miller, were both re-elected. Miller had 664 votes and Briggs had 591. Other candidates were Rich Gold (143) and Joshua Price (135). In the race for Laddonia mayor, Gary Garnett received 68 votes to Glenn Jensen s 40.

10 Questions with.Gary Garnett By:  Editor Gary Garnett started a business after retirement – Big Gun Kettle Corn. He also was elected to a Laddonia Board of Alderman seat after retirement, a post he’s held for six years. Garnett put his name in the hat for the mayor’s seat, as well. Plus he has rental properties in town.   All this after he stepped down from his position as a Moberly firefighter and moved back to Laddonia where he was born and raised to take care of his parents.   That was eight years ago and, he says, “I’m still here.” And he’s still active.
