THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new farm laws hurt the farmers and the state, said Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Friday while reading out Kerala government s opposition to the three agriculture laws passed by the Centre.
Arif Mohammed Khan, while reading out the policy address, said the farmers will lose bargaining powers and income loss at the cost of corporate with the amendment of Essential Commodities Act. It will also impact a consumer state such as Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 08: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Friday flayed the contentious farm laws passed by the Centre, against which farmers are on the warpath in Delhi, saying it would undermine regulated markets and help the corporates.
Khan read in full length the remarks against thefarm laws, against which the Kerala Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution on December 31 demanding its immediate withdrawal. The governor also attacked the central investigating agencies,probing various allegations against the state governmentprogrammes, saying they have overstepped the constitutional contours .
The remarks against the farm laws and central agencies were part of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government s policy address during the beginning of the budget session at the state Assembly, and Khan did not omit the portions critical of the Union government s policies and the actions of its probe agencies.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against 20 people, including Sarith PS and Swapna Suresh for their alleged involvement in the Kerala gold smuggling case. 30 kilograms of gold worth Rs 14.82 crores, smuggled through diplomatic cargo, was busted by the Customs in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5, 2020.
The NIA investigation hitherto has revealed that the accused had knowingly conspired since June,
2019, raised funds and smuggled from UAE, between November, 2019 and June, 2020, around 167 Kgs of gold, through the import cargo addressed to diplomats at the Consulate General of UAE in Thiruvananthapuram. Significantly the main accused in this case had also planned to smuggle more gold from countries like Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, the premier probe agency said.
