According to police, the deceased man has been identified as Nandu.  Multiple media reports said that Nandu was killed in the clash between the RSS and Social Democratic Party of India in Nagamkulangara near Cherthala. The SDPI is the political offshoot of Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI). Nandu was attacked with sharp objects. He was taken to a nearby hospital but he succumbed to injuries, police said, adding that 6 SDPI workers have been taken into custody.

The BJP has called for a 12-hour shutdown in the district after the incident. The man, identified as Nandhu Krishna, died after a fight broke out between a group of RSS and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) workers near Vayalar town last evening, police said. Police said that the clash happened after provocation from both sides and eight SDPI workers have been arrested in the case.

All eight arrested are SDPI workers, said police. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other organisations have called for a 12-hour shutdown in Kerala s Alappuzha district after an RSS worker was allegedly killed by SDPI members during a clash in the district on Wednesday night.
