There’s a new Station 16 in Jaffrey.
Before this summer, if you were talking about Station 16, it would be the Jaffrey Fire Department you were referring to – that’s the station radio call sign. But now, from April to August, if you mention Station 16, it’s more likely to be referring to a portable ice cream stand that has popped up on Peterborough Street, in place of the former Tyler’s Ice Cream.
The name is no coincidence. Chastity Hodgson and her father, Keith Dupuis, who are partners in the venture along with Chastity’s husband Steven and her mother Leah Dupuis, are long-time members of the Jaffrey Fire Department.

There were no injuries in a two-alarm garage fire that broke out in Sharon early Monday morning.
The garage workshop at 81 Turnpike Road was “fully involved” and fire was spreading to the adjacent log cabin-style home when Jaffrey Assistant Fire Chief Keith Dupuis arrived first on the scene, Peterborough Fire Chief Ed Walker said.
A second alarm call went out just before 5 a.m. Engines from New Ipswich and Jaffrey arrived next, and firefighters extinguished the house before moving on to the garage, Walker said. The house’s log cabin construction meant that there was no interior damage, although the facade and roof burned. The garage was extinguished by 7 a.m., he said.
Update 3:30 p.m. 4-30-21:
Because of inclement weather (all that rain with more expected) festival organizers have announced the Rails & Tails Mudbug Festival has been canceled for this year.
While the phrase “May Day” typically signals a distress call from a ship or boat, it’s also the traditional nomenclature for May 1 in the calendar year. And for Ted Lee, co-founder/bassist for the Cajun-centric band Bayou Roux, this year’s May Day will be anything but stressful.
In fact, he’s looking forward to taking the stage at the Rails & Tails Mudbug Festival in downtown Tomball. And he already knows how he’ll feel.
