The brazen shooting of Jonathan Bacon in Kelowna in 2011 galvanized three accused to engage in two subsequent murder conspiracies, a prosecutor said Monday.
Larry Amero, Rabih “Robby” Alkhalil, and Dean Wiwchar the three accused pleaded not guilty Monday to conspiring to murder Sandip Duhre and Sukh Dhak. Wiwchar and Alkhalil also pleaded not guilty to the January 2012 first-degree murder of Duhre at Vancouver’s Sheraton Wall Centre.

Crown counsel Nicole Gregoire told a B.C. Supreme Court jury that the August 2011 murder of Bacon provides evidence of the motive for the three accused to commit their crimes.

A B.C. man has been acquitted of charges that he assaulted and sexually assaulted his pregnant wife-to-be two days before their wedding.
The couple, who are not identified by name in a court ruling in the case, met one another in 2004, got married on Jan. 18, 2008, and had two children together before separating in June 2009.

Two days before the wedding, the complainant, who was about five months pregnant at the time, alleges that during an argument, she was assaulted numerous times in the farmhouse where they lived.
