MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) â The Mankato United soccer team is ready for the upcoming season this summer after missing all of last year due to COVID-19.
The roster is made up of many student-athletes from the MSU Mavericks, and United is looking to build off its performance in 2019 that ended with a share of the conference title in the soccer clubâs inaugural season.
âI think we can pick up right where we left off to be honest. We have that caliber of a team. Weâve got some young keepers. We had some players go to the pro game. Maggie Smithers and Annie Williams are going pro to Iceland. Weâll have some spots to fill, we have three keepers on the team with a ton of potential. LAKE CRYSTAL, Minn. (KEYC) 2020 changed the landscape of sports while protocols and guidelines were put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19.
That meant moving all those races like 5K’s, triathlons, marathons and more all virtual.
Competitions such as those are starting to return this spring and summer including the 10th Annual Duathlon and 5K put on by the Lake Crystal Area Recreation Center for an in-person competition compared to the revised event from a year ago.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) The nationally-ranked Minnesota State softball team hosted Upper Iowa for a doubleheader Thursday afternoon.
MSU wins game one 6-0.
Mackenzie Ward tossed six scoreless innings and struck out 12 in game one.
Mavericks win game two by a final of 5-3 to complete the sweep.
MSU is now 24-7 overall on the season and 13-5 in conference play.
The Mavericks return to the diamond for a doubleheader on the road against Bemidji State this Saturday.
Gusties split doubleheader with St. Thomas

ST. PETER, Minn. (KEYC) The Gustavus baseball team hit the field for a doubleheader against St. Thomas in a battle between the top two teams in the MIAC Wednesday afternoon.
Gustavus won game one by a final of 3-1 thanks in part to a great effort on the mound from Weston Lombard. The left-hander went six innings and struck out nine hitters.
In game two, St. Thomas won 5-4 in another close game to snap the Gusties 11 game winning streak.
