Post-meeting analysis: Randwick Guineas day

A Kiwi-bred three-year-old claimed the Group 1 Randwick Guineas but it wasn’t the one most punters’ wanted at Randwick on Saturday. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained Aegon was sent out a firm $2.60 favourite in the feature event but it was John O’Shea’s galloper Lion’s Roar which took the major share of the $1 million purse while the other Group 1 race of the day – the Canterbury Stakes went to Godolphin mare Savatiano. The Golden Slipper is a fortnight away but the picture remains cloudy after the standing favourites Profiteer and Stay Inside were rolled by the James Cummings-trained Anamoe in the Todman Stakes, while Glistening gave Richard and Michael Freedman their second Slipper runner taking out the Reisling Stakes.

Randwick Guineas 2021: Peltzer out to maintain perfect track record in Group 1 mile

Peltzer can prove the “horses for courses’’ theory is fact not fiction when he contests the Group 1 $1 million Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Royal Randwick. The talented colt clearly saves his best for Randwick where he is unbeaten in five starts, including feature race successes in the Stan Fox Stakes, Bondi Stakes and Eskimo Prince Stakes. His only other win came at Kembla Grange on debut. But when Peltzer races at Rosehill Gardens, it all goes horribly wrong. From four starts on his home track he remains winless, the only defeats of his 10-race career. He was beaten as favourite last start when fourth to Aegon in the Hobartville Stakes.

Gosford races: Tommy Berry refuses to ease up in hunt for winners

Sydney’s leading jockey Tommy Berry wasn’t going to let his hectic schedule stop him from riding French Bonnet and Deepfield Magic at Gosford on Wednesday. Berry could easily have chosen to miss the low-key provincial meeting, particularly after riding into the evening at Warwick Farm on Australia Day then backing up quickly to ride at an important Rosehill barrier trials session in the morning. Then there is the Canterbury Friday night meeting ahead of Saturday’s Expressway Stakes fixture at Rosehill Gardens, which heralds the unofficial start of the Sydney autumn carnival. Exosphere s brother for sale at Millions

Link to Share Several city winners, including a brother to Exosphere, will be among 14 horses that will be offered as part of the Magic Millions Summer Racehorse Sale. Godolphin has provided 12 of the 14 horses who will go through the ring in an interesting suffix to the Gold Coast Yearling Sale that has been running since last Tuesday. Hilo, a winner of four races and more than $300,000, is the best-performed of the draft, which also includes last-start Warwick Farm winner Deference. Knickpoint, who is a Canterbury winner, will also be offered, along with his half-brother Oregon Trail, but the horse with the most famous sibling to be sold is without doubt Altimeter.
