Crash investigation on US 60 westbound lanes
MESA, Ariz. - A crash resulted in the closure of the three right lanes of US 60 westbound at Power Road on Monday.
DPS Sgt. Kameron Lee says troopers were on scene of a rollover collision in the area the morning of April 26 where a vehicle struck the guardrail and rolled. They were in the cleanup stage and had the right lane blocked with a patrol SUV to clean and clear the crash. The lights on the patrol SUV were activated.
A dozen or so showed up for a neo-Nazi rally in Phoenix, outnumbered by counterprotesters BrieAnna J. Frank, Arizona Republic
A planned rally by a group widely classified as a neo-Nazi organization at the Arizona Capitol on Saturday was largely uneventful, with counterprotesters greatly outnumbering others in attendance.
Ahead of the rally, organizers of a unity march rescheduled because of concerns for violence, and fencing was erected around state buildings.
A few more than a dozen people gathered at the Capitol complex at 1 p.m., the same time as nearly double the number of counterprotesters.
The Arizona Department of Administration, which hands out permits for events, said it received a permit application for the event which was promoted on the National Socialist Movement website, but it rejected the permit because organizers could not provide adequate insurance.
A driver was struck and killed after getting out of their vehicle during a series of traffic collisions on U.S. 60 in Mesa on Saturday evening, according to the Department of Public Safety.
A vehicle was traveling east on U.S. 60 at milepost 178 near Alma School Road in the left emergency lane and attempted to pull a disabled vehicle off the highway with a tow strap shortly before 9:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Kameron Lee, a DPS spokesperson.
The tow vehicle entered the HOV lane and was struck by another passing vehicle. The impact caused the tow vehicle to be pushed into the middle lanes of traffic.
