The annual event had its challenges with the Radio Gibraltar roadshow cancelled due to Covid restrictions. Instead, the Radio Gibraltar team broadcast from the studio, clinching donations totalling £33,333. After this GBC continued with its television programming and involved the community in its classic comedy skits, musical performances and raffles. “Having raised over £118,000 during Open Day 2020 and climbing, I can only praise the ever-generous Gibraltarian public and businesses for supporting GBC yet again,” GBC CEO Gerard Teuma said.

The event had been impacted by Covid-19 as restrictions resulted in the Radio Gibraltar roadshow at the Piazza being cancelled. Instead, the team broadcast live from the studio. This meant the Open Day has lost donations from passers-by, although it received some traction thanks to a new drive-by cash pipe introduced on the side of Broadcasting House.

The Rapid Testing Service is being set up outside Gibraltar International Airport and is aimed at visitors without a GHA card, with Dr Bhatti stressing Gibraltarians should continue to use the Covid-19 drive-through service instead. The speed of the new service will come at the cost of accuracy and Dr Bhatti is advising any students arriving in Gibraltar not to use this in place of their pre-booked tests.
