Google s search choice screen had virtually no effect on search market share, perhaps by design

Google’s search choice screen had virtually no effect on search market share, perhaps by design Auction participants say the model favors ad-heavy search engines and redirects their profits to Google. George Nguyen on February 17, 2021 at 8:00 am More Google’s search choice screen was introduced nearly a year ago. It was created as a way to appease the European Commission after it fined the company €4.3 billion (roughly $5 billion), the largest antitrust fine the commission has ever imposed. Looking at a chart of mobile search market share in Europe, you wouldn’t be able to tell that the sector is any more competitive now than it was before Google launched the search choice screen.

Privacy groups are hoping that a new standard, called Global Privacy Control, will change that. It’s designed as a global opt out, a general signal that users want as little data collection and sharing as possible. In particular, the GPC standard will let users signal that they don’t want services to share their data with third-party data brokers, something that is outside the

Great Search Engine, Strange Web URL; Two Years Later, Duck com Still Just Redirects | Strategic Revenue

A DuckDuckGo sign off Interstate 95, West Palm Beach, Florida. December 31, 2020. This may be the only billboard sign for an Internet only business I have ever noticed that did not contain the web address. PALM BEACH, FL – A couple of days ago I looked up and saw a highway sign and thought to myself, ‘great search engine, horrible name.’ That was after seeing a sign off I-95, in West Palm Beach, Florida advertising what is a better search engine then Bing and Yahoo, but still far less use. Also sort of odd, there was no web URL on the sign. “Duck.com” was seen to have changed hands according to domain registrar details pointed out by domain industry website DotWeekly.com.
