PHOENIX â Not even 4 p.m. on Thursday and technical rescue crews with the Phoenix Fire Department have reportedly responded to their fourth mountain rescue of the day at Camelback Mountain to help distressed hikers who apparently underestimated the summer heat.
The rescues come two days after the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Board voted to launch a test program set to begin on Friday, July 16, that would close Camelback Mountain both Cholla and Echo Canyon trailheads and the Piestewa Peak trailhead when the National Weather Service issues an Excessive Heat Watch.

2 dead in car fire after tow truck collision in Phoenix, fire department says
Two people died after a collision with a tow truck in Phoenix near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road on Friday.
PHOENIX - Two people died in a Phoenix crash after a tow truck and car collided on Friday, April 16.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m. near
83rd Avenue and McDowell Road. Phoenix Police say the driver of the car was eastbound on Indian School Road when it crossed the median into westbound traffic and collided with a semi-truck.
