Today, the World Surf League (WSL) confirmed the updated schedule for the Championship Tour (CT) Australian leg, announcing the three upcoming events in North Narrabeen (NSW), Margaret River (WA), and Rottnest Island (WA). After a week of speculation and behind the scenes wheel-spinning, the World Surf League is announcing this morning that the Rip Curl Pro at Bells is cancelled for this year.
Attempts to find a new date for the event failed when the Victorian authorities were unable to give the WSL the certainty of a “bubble” style entry into the State if the Vicco border happened to be closed at the time.
State border closures are a day by day proposition right now, as yesterday’s closure of the South Australian border to Victoria, thanks to an infection case in the Victorian quarantine system, shows.
