WARREN A Youngstown man, who in 2019 was acquitted of a murder charge in Mahoning County, on Thursday received an indefinite prison term between five and seven years after pleading guilty to a host of felonies connected to a June 2020 incident involving a gun at a Liberty Township home.
Albert D. Byrd IV, 26, of 1102 Wilshire Drive, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of felonious assault, one count of kidnapping, one count of burglary and one of count domestic violence. Five of the charges carried firearms specifications, which added one mandatory year to the prison sentence.
Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald J. Rice, who had agreed to the jointly recommended sentence by prosecutors and the defense attorney, ordered Byrd to register as repeated violent offender in Ohio.

CORTLAND A Cortland man accused of sexually abusing a girl from the time she was 9 years old until she turned 18 was in court last week trying to have parts of an interview he had with a police detective kept away from potential jurors.
Floyd Ruiter, 65, 176 Gates St., Cortland, is charged in a 16-count indictment, including three counts of child rape that carries a potential life sentence.
The sexual abuse took place over a decade ago, and the victim is now 29, prosecutors say.
Ruiter and his attorney, Desirae DiPiero, appeared Friday before Common Pleas Court Judge Peter J. Kontos for a hearing to suppress evidence.

WARREN A Niles man who has been jailed for 18 months awaiting trial in a rape case will have to wait another six months.
Joshua Vigorito, 34, of Ann Avenue, Niles, on Monday waived his right for a speedy trial for another 180 days. In Ohio, defendants who are incarcerated have a right to be tried within 90 days.
Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos set a new trial date for June 1.
Vigorito is charged with felony rape and kidnapping. Kontos also set a pretrial hearing for Jan. 11 in the case that involves a 25-year-old woman for an incident that allegedly occurred in May 2019 in the 800 block of Belmont Avenue in Niles.
