11-time champion David Bradshaw closes in on another WV Open title By

CHARLESTON, W.Va. A second round 68 has lifted David Bradshaw to the top of the leaderboard at the 88th West Virginia Open. The 11-time Open champion put seven birdies on his card Thursday at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport. At 4-under par, Bradshaw will take a three-shot lead over Nick Fleming into Friday’s final round.
“I have had leads and I have lost them. I have been behind and come back,” Bradshaw said on
Citynet Statewide Sportsline.
Bradshaw posted the low round of the tournament Thursday to follow up an even par round on Wednesday. The Shepherd University alumnus is seeking his 12th title just 18 years after winning his first as an amateur in 2004.

A sanitation worker who found American flags thrown in the trash, pulled them out, and properly retired them was honored Tuesday in Lackawanna County.
Ken Hess who is a Dickson City DPW worker, received one thousand dollars and an honorary plaque at Toyota of Scranton.
While on his rounds earlier this month, Hess found 14 American flags crumbled up in the trash.
He picked out each one and brought them to a local American Legion post to be properly retired.
Hess says this mission is personal for him.

Ken Hess sees a lot of things in the course of a day as a garbage collector that he probably doesn t want to.
But if he sees the colors red, white, and blue peeking out of a trash bag. I get a pit in my stomach. First, it s anger. And then it s like, it doesn t matter what s in the hoppers, I go in, and I dig it out. Sometimes I m waist-deep, but it is what it is. It has to be respected, and it has to be done.
