Crown Resorts has admitted to the Victorian government that it evaded the stateâs casino tax for almost 10 years, but the casino giant only confessed to underpaying $8 million despite some legal advice indicating the amount could be much higher.
Giving evidence to the Victorian royal commission on Tuesday, Crownâs new chief executive, Steve McCann, said he wrote to the state government admitting to the illegal underpayment last week, but denied he included an estimate in the bottom range to secure a bargaining position.

Three Southland Korean War veterans were honoured with memorial plaques and peace medals by the Republic of Korea’s ambassador to New Zealand. Ambassador to New Zealand, Sang-jin Lee, met with three Southland veterans who were part of the United Nations force during the war (1950-53). “New Zealand was one of the first countries to respond to the United Nation’s call for assistance,” Lee said. “As a Korean ambassador, to express gratitude to those people [war veterans] in person is one of my priorities.
Victoria government pushes back Crown inquiry deadline

The Government of the Australian state of Victoria has extended its time frame to complete a Royal Commission which will determine whether Crown Melbourne can hold a licence in the state.
The initial August deadline has been pushed to 15 October 2021. Crown said it remains fully co-operative in relation to the Royal Commission, chaired by Raymond Finkelstein QC.
Crown’s executive chairman Helen Coonan said: “As Executive Chairman, I have made clear that any shortcomings identified by the Royal Commissions will be addressed. The Board and I are committed to making Crown a stronger, more transparent and respected company.
