Letter: H R 1 must be rejected

Letter: H.R. 1 must be rejected Published: 4/6/2021 7:44:15 AM This voting rights bill must be rejected by Senators Hassan and Shaheen. This is a politically biased bill that favors the ability to have Democrats to control the federal government. It is a total destruction of Article Two of the U,S, Constitution and the second paragraph that gives the states the power to legislate rules for voting. Some politicians try to justify voting for H.R. 1 by saying it prohibits voter suppression. This voter suppression argument is not true. The issue is about voter integrity which H.R. 1 bill weakens. The founders of our nation looked at all of the different forms of government in history. The founders had one driving goal: to make sure that America would never again be controlled by a federal government with absolute power over states. H.R. 1 takes away the right of legislating voting rules by states. This is exactly the danger our founders wanted to protect us from.

Juan Williams: Corporate leaders must bring down Georgia s unjust law

© Getty Images America’s top Black business leaders took out a full-page advertisement in the New York Times last week calling on white corporate leaders to take a stand against new Georgia election laws that “make it harder for Black voters, in particular, to exercise their right to vote.” The ad is a stunner a big switch from the day when Michael Jordan, the basketball star and now billionaire businessman, was quoted as saying “Republicans buy sneakers, too.” That kind of thinking led generations of Black business leaders to say nothing about racist politics. ADVERTISEMENT To be a Black executive trying to move up in the white-male-dominated ranks of American corporations is a tough enough road without the risk of being privately labeled as a racial troublemaker. High earners among Black athletes and entertainers face similar challenges.

When the Press Went to War with Georgia Maybe you are a business owner incensed over Georgia’s new voting law, but you don’t know how to transform your company into a vehicle for left-wing activism. Fortunately, CBS News is here to help. On Friday, the news outlet promoted a report via CBS Money Watch reporter Khristopher Brooks with the efficient headline, “3 ways companies can help fight Georgia’s restrictive new voting law.” The article itemized the ways in which corporate America can join the fight, including halting donations to certain undesirables within the Georgia GOP, advocating against these and other similar laws with the imprimatur of a corporate letterhead, and backing the increased federalization of state-level elections.

Cobb County Expected To Lose $100 Million In Tourism After MLB All-Star Game Is Moved

(Scott Cunningham/Getty Images) Cobb County is expected to lose approximately $100 million in tourism after Major League Baseball announced that the 2021 MLB All-Star Game would no longer be held in Georgia. “In the initial stages of the pandemic, many Cobb hotels saw single-digit occupancy numbers,” Cobb Travel and Tourism President Holly Quinlan told CNN. “The 8,000-plus contracted hotel room nights that will not actualize as a result of the MLB All-Star Game relocation will have a negative impact on Cobb’s hospitality industry and other local businesses, further delaying recovery.” Major League Baseball moved this season’s all-star weekend festivities after Georgia legislators passed S.B. 202. The recently passed bill would severely limit drop-box voting, require voters to submit ID in order to vote by mail and offer more power in elections to Republican legislators. Also, the bill makes it illegal to pass out food or drinks to voters waiting in long lines on Elect

Inside corporate America s frantic response to the Georgia voting law – Finance & Commerce

On March 11, Delta Air Lines dedicated a building at its Atlanta headquarters to Andrew Young, the civil rights leader and former mayor. At the ceremony, Young spoke of the restrictive voting rights bill that Republicans were rushing through the Georgia state Legislature. Then, after the speeches, Young’s daughter, Andrea, a prominent activist herself, cornered Delta’s CEO, Ed Bastian. “I told him how important it was to oppose this law,” she said. For Bastian, it was an early warning that the issue of voting rights might soon ensnare Delta in another national dispute. Over the past five years, corporations have taken political stands like never before, often in response to the extreme policies of former President Donald Trump.
