Filmmakers from Cairns and Townsville have commenced production on their short documentary projects, as part of Authentic – a Screen Queensland initiative with Screenworks.
Authentic is a fully funded $4,000 opportunity for three filmmaking teams, based in Far North Queensland and extending to North Queensland, to produce short films about significant personalities in their region.
Each team will work closely with a mentoring producer from ABC to refine their shooting scripts, production planning, rough cuts and final edits, with potential for completed work to be greenlit to screen on ABC platforms.
Screen Queensland Chief Creative Officer Jo Dillon said, “We are delighted to announce Cairns teams Janne Rytkönen with Samantha Martin, and Shontell Leah Ketchell with Ewan Cutler, alongside Townsville-based creative Robert Crispe, as recipients of the Authentic initiative.
Bluey, producers of Australian films such as
Top End Wedding, or shows like
Wentworth, will all meet in Lennox Head next month to share their expertise. Screenworks Regional to Global Screen Forum will include three packed days with workshops, presentations, one-on-one meetings, round tables and networking events to be held online or in person. In person at Lennox Head will be Charlie Aspinwall and Sam Moore, co-founder and producer at Ludo Studio respectively. Ludo jumped into global stardom with hit series
Bluey. Two executives from Ludo Studios, the creators of Bluey, will be at the Lennox Head event. Goalpost Pictures founding partner Rosemary Blight will also be at Lennox Head in person, to discuss details of her recent production credits in
Mr Anderson said the company will mostly work on VR projects.
âNew Canvas is purely focused on entertainment projects,â he said.
âWeâll be working entirely in immersive media, mostly virtual reality, but also in some augmented reality, and we are looking at how storytelling and entertainment formats will evolve and adapt for this media.
âWith VR the story happens all around you, not just on a frame in front of you, so the business will be experimenting with different techniques for adapting storytelling into this media and allowing audiences to control and interact with the action.â
