Bolton caucus uses Zoom format to set May 10 election ballot

Bolton caucus uses Zoom format to set May 10 election ballot Ken Cleveland BOLTON – The ballot for the annual town election will be filled with many familiar names after the town caucus March 8. Holding the traditional caucus by Zoom instead of in person, voters gathered virtually, slowing reaching the 25-voter minimum to nominate candidates for the May 10 town election. Town Clerk Pam Powell said there were 40 people registered before the planned 7:30 p.m. start; the Zoom images sometimes included more than one person per “Zoom box” but everything went smoothly. “It’s a lot more fun than going to the library,” Charlotte Johnson-Zembko quipped.

Work on new Holden DPW site continues

Work on new Holden DPW site continues Ken Cleveland HOLDEN Snow and other winter weather can slow things down. But they cannot stop progress on Holden’s new facility to house the Department of Public Works. Work on the $15 million project has been continuing, focused for now on underground infrastructure at the 18 Industrial Drive site. Construction started in November and was projected to be complete in 15 months, early in 2022, if things remain on schedule. The department would move from its current Adams Road location after that, expecting to be settled in its new home by summer 2022. “Site utility work is being performed,” DPW Director John Woodsmall said recently, including the water main installation.

Town meeting scheduling complicated by darkness, flies

Ken Cleveland Special to The Landmark PAXTON Planning for the unknown in the Age of COVID-19, selectmen are trying to figure out when to hold the annual town meeting. Last year, it was delayed from May to August. This year, the tradition would be to hold it on May 3. Selectmen at their meeting Feb. 8 discussed the concerns about having it inside. But another outside meeting posed complications as well. “I’m hoping we can still have it May 3, but it may be outside,” Chairman Peter Bogren Jr. said. Town Administrator Carol Riches raised concerns about the weather, but Bogren said he was not so worried about the weather as social distancing.
