Meg Howarth, Islington, full address supplied, writes:
Islington council’s claim that further environmental destruction at Highbury Corner is a price worth paying for a maximum of an additional 25 council homes on the existing Dixon Clark Court (DCC) estate - not 27 as spun by the town hall - is both absurd and misleading - but good to see that at least the High Court judges got the figure right (Judge permits Islington Council to evict eco-warriors).
Unlike the other major geographical junctions in the borough - Angel and Archway - the DCC green screen of trees provides a public-realm service not only to the estate’s residents but also to passers-by. Trees and green aren’t only about environment and climate protection but also public health - physical and mental. With Right to Buy (RtB) income from the sale of some of the additional properties factored into the financial viability of the proposed development, on one estimate in the planning officer’s report as few as 1

The crew behind the Euston HS2 protest claim they have built another tunnel at Highbury Corner, in protest at Islington Council s plans to chop down seven 50-year-old trees to make way for a block of flats.
Bailiffs apparently discovered the hidden tunnel when they tried to evict the camp at Dixon Clark Court, off Canonbury Road, at 5am on Tuesday morning (February 9), according to reports from eco-activists.
A statement issued by the Save The Trees campaign today said: “Early this morning, authorities were reeling to discover they’d failed to learn their lesson from The Great Escape – that there’s always more than one tunnel.”

She lived in a tent outside Parliament for six years, and now veteran peace campaigner Maria Gallastegui has taken up residence in the trees at Highbury Corner.
They had claimed squatters rights to the trees four months ago in a bid to prevent them from being chopped down to make way for a block of flats.
The protesters were ordered to vacate the site off Canonbury Road by February 1, but have heard bailiffs are not due to turn up until February 8 and remain in situ.

Detectives have released an e-fit of a youth they want to speak to, after a teenager was left partially blinded following a horrific assault in Islington.
The 19-year-old victim was assaulted by two men in Canonbury Road just before 7pm on December 29.
One of them reportedly stole his bag and hit him repeatedly around the face with a baton-style weapon.
Emergency services were called and he was taken to hospital for treatment for facial injuries, which doctors have said will affect him for the rest of his life.
