Tourism players are upbeat following heightened negotiation between Kenya and Tanzania that aims at bolstering trade between the two nations.
Stakeholders said that apart from Kenya which has been cooperating with Uganda and Rwanda on tourism, Tanzania has had a frosty relation with Kenya.
They said the recent state visit by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to Kenya brought new hope of closer cooperation between the two states.
Last year, the relations worsened after Tanzania banned Kenya Airways from flying to her territory. Chief Executive Officer of One World Adventures Limited Solomon Wao, said that once all is done, the free flow of tourists between Kenya and Tanzania will be of great benefit to the tourism industry.

For the past six years, Coast region has borne the brunt of nationalist policies of the Tanzanian administration, which have been blamed for the strained trade relations between the two neighbouring nations.
The tit-for-tat diplomatic relationship between the two nations heightened in May last year after Tanzania banned Kenyan trucks from its territory. This affected evacuation of cargo from Mombasa to the northern part of Tanzania.
Yesterday, Kenya Transport Association (KTA) chief executive Dennis Ombok noted that business through Lunga Lunga, Namanga and Taveta border went down after the ban.
KEPSA donates PPEs to County Government of Mombasa

The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) through the Kenya Healthcare Federation has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the County Government of Mombasa. The PPEs donations worth Ksh. 5 million have been donated to 3 counties; Mombasa, Kajiado and Machakos.
The PPEs are a donation by businessman Dr. Manu Chandaria through the COVID-19 fund to KEPSA. The donation was made as a response to the rising number of COVID-19 infections in the country.
KEPSA has launched a number of initiatives in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to highlight the importance of the partnership between the private and public sectors in Kenya. A 24-hour call center and a COVID-19 information portal were launched to aid business owners to get responses on business and health matters for their workers, to strengthen their supply chains, business initiatives, and economic mitigation. MOMBASA, KENYA: Domestic Tourism Association of Kenya (DTAK) has welcomed the pledge by Tanzanian new President Samia Suluhu Hassan to strengthen its working relations with Kenya.
DTAK chairman, Dr Tuqa Jirmo said the biggest beneficiary of the cordial relation between the two neighbouring countries will be domestic tourism that has continued to be the lifeline for the struggling hospitality industry. I reckon with full confidence that this will be good particularly for domestic tourism. We need to encourage regional approaches to tourism also. For tourism to recover faster, the post-Covid-19 strategy should focus more on harnessing domestic market both within the country and in the region, Dr Jirmo said.
