A new business support group is making a bid for shop owner buy-in to put more promotional focus on Palmerston North s inner city. Palmy BID aims to replicate the success of George St and Cuba St s precinct events, and apply it to the central business district, while also acting as a retail advocate when dealing with Palmerston North City Council. At an introductory event for the business community at the city library on Wednesday, Palmy BID interim chairman Rob Campbell explained the group would represent the 1200 property and business owners within the council’s new Business Improvement District.

In Foxton Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom opened in 2017 in a former Mitre10 barn. In both languages it means ‘’the new stream’’. It’s in the shadow of a windmill, beside a flax museum, marking that it’s 150 years since this was the centre of a harakeke boom.
