To celebrate International Women’s History Month this March, the Canmore Museum will explore the biography of a pioneer women who settled in the Bow Valley.
The book
Latch String Out by Eleanor G. Luxton describes the pioneer life of Annie McKenzie McDougall, wife of western fur trader and rancher, David McDougall.

Written over a 30-year period, Annie saw some of the last buffalo hunting in the West, witnessed the signing of Treaty No. 7, and lived through the dramatic changes and growth of communities at Morley, Banff and Calgary. Although a true story, people will critically discuss how this story is told and identify what biases come through in the telling.
