Kent County Sheriffs investigate uptick in catalytic converter thefts

KENT COUNTY, Mich. In Kent County there have been 83 incidents of catalytic converter thefts this year. Last year there was just four.
Sgt. Joy Matthews with the Kent County Sheriff s Office called the information quite shocking.
The most recent case happened on Monday. The sheriff s office said two catalytic converters were stolen off vehicles parked in the 7000 block of Clyde Park Avenue in Byron Center. The incident occurred between the hours of 5 p.m. Monday, July 19 and 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 20.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. â Kent County deputies are looking for David Cook, 69, after he went missing Wednesday.
Cook was last seen Wednesday at 9 a.m. leaving the 7500 block of Burlingame Ave SW in his silver 2001 Dodge Dakota to run errands.
Authorities report that Cook left without his medications and has been gone for an unusually long time.

Cook is a 5â11 , 195-pound white man with long brown hair and a gray beard. The missing endangered manâs license plate is EDP1538.

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. â Hungry Howieâs in Cedar Springs on 151 S. Main St NE was robbed on June 3 was by gunpoint.
The restaurant is offering $1,000 to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible according to the Kent County Sheriffs Office.
Authorities report a 5â9 white man wearing a red bandanna, gray hoodie, and dark gray sweatpants flashed a gun before demanding cash and fleeing on foot.
No one was injured KSCO reports and those with information are asked to contact the Kent County Sheriffâs Office at (616) 632-6357 or submit a tip through the KCSO mobile app. Alternatively tips can be submitted anonymously to Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. The Kent County Sheriffs Office is asking the public for help identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery on Thursday, Dec. 18.
Just after 12 p.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to the Instant Cash Advance at 3945 Plainfield Ave NE, on reports of an armed robbery.
Police say the suspect entered the store, showed a gun and demanded cash from the employees.
The suspect fled the scene in a newer blue Mazda CX-5.
