Lycoming Women Democrats name scholarship winners By BARBARA C. BARRETT - | Jul 7, 2021 Seniors Emma Hogan from Muncy High School and Katelyn Taylor from Montgomery High School (center) each received a $400 scholarship from the Kay Ertel Scholarship Fund on June 24 at the annual picnic for Lycoming Women Democrats (LWD). With the students are Mary Wright, President of LWD (far left) and Mary Sieminski, chair of the scholarship committee for the organization. The event was held at Susquehanna State Park. With a view of the Susquehanna River and the Hiawatha Paddle Wheel Riverboat, the Lycoming County Women Democrats (LWD) held their annual picnic at the Susquehanna State Park on Thursday, June 24.

So many people, so many shining moments, so many reasons to be proud! That’s what we see day in and day out on the front pages of your hometown community newspaper, the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. Even during a global pandemic, our people are out there giving of themselves and doing remarkable things. People like Joe Hope, who recently retired as chief after 25 years with the Old Lycoming Township Police Department, and Donald “The Duke” Lukens, a city resident and 95-year-old World War II veteran. Lukens has served his country during one of the great wars and, at 95, spent a week in the hospital with COVID-19. He defied the odds and beat the virus, showing us all the possibility.
