SOUTH CAROLINA, USA Drivers who frequently use I-77 between Charlotte and Rock Hill, get ready to pack your patience.
Heavy delays are expected next month as crews make major renovations to the Catawba River Bridge.
“We are going to replace the southbound bridge deck on I-77 over the Catawba River, SCDOT Deputy Secretary for Engineering Leland Colvin said.
The Catawba River Bridge was built in 1973.
It was widened in 2000 but SCDOT officials say short-term repairs just won t cut it anymore, because 120,000 cars travel on it daily, in both directions.
“We basically just need to go out there and quickly replace that riding surface, Colvin said.

Wells Fargo, NextEra Energy Resources, and Duke Energy today announced a 20-year renewable energy purchase agreement, under which Wells Fargo will consume 100% of solar energy produced by the Blackburn Solar Project, a 58-megawatt 600-acre solar farm planned for Catawba County, North Carolina, under Duke Energy’s Green Source Advantage (GSA) program. The transaction announced today is Wells Fargo’s single largest to date and will supply approximately 8% of the company’s annual global electricity.

Major South Carolina interstate bridge to close for repairs

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) A major bridge repair project in South Carolina next month will likely cause huge traffic headaches on a highway that carries more than 100,000 vehicles a day. say
Crews will close the Interstate 77 southbound bridge over the Catawba River near Rock Hill at 9 p.m. May 6. It will remain closed for 17 days to replace to concrete road surface on the structure, the Department of Transportation said.
The bridge was built in 1970s and has needed spot repairs to its surface several times in the past few years. Engineers have concluded it is best just to build a new bridge deck, SCDOT said in a statement.
