Beverly Lynn Corelle, 79, of Dewey Beach, beloved community leader and friend, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at her home Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021. She was born Dec. 3, 1941, in Salisbury, N.C., daughter of the late Ralphs and Louise (Dunn) Corelle.
After graduating high school, Beverly earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics from Catawba College in Salisbury, where she was presented the Whitener Award, the highest honor given at graduation, and served as a leader and award recipient in many of her college organizations. She went on to receive a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville), and later a master’s degree in education administration from Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Md.). Her heart was in teaching and she taught many years in the public high school system, Old Dominion University in Virginia and Virginia Wesleyan College.
New York Stage and Film Commits $100,000 to Support Artists with NEXUS Initiative
New York Stage and Film, considered “one of the preeminent incubators for theater in the country,” has committed $100,000 to their new NEXUS Initiative that brings together 20 multi-hyphenate artists to explore the question “where does story exist at the intersection of stage and film?” Through this inaugural program, NYSAF will offer direct support to these artists – each participant receives $5,000 and will take part in a series of conversations focused on the needs of new and expanded forms of storytelling that resonate with our time.
In order to increase access to the program and respond to the ideas of a broad range of storytellers, these 20 participants were recommended by 14 leading artists of stage and film for their accomplishments in exploring new forms of storytelling. SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) - Muddy Sneakers, a nonprofit that works with fifth-graders teaching hands-on science education in the outdoors, has moved its Piedmont office from downtown Salisbury to the Center for the Environment at Catawba College.
The 13-year-old organization has an office in the North Carolina mountains as well as in the Piedmont. Currently, the organization reaches 2,000 fifth graders in 39 public schools in 19 counties. In Rowan County, Muddy Sneakers has worked with Isenberg, Mt. Ulla, Overton, West Rowan Elementary, Hurley, China Grove, Granite Quarry, Knollwood, Koontz, Cleveland, and Hanford Dole schools.

SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) - Catawba College has received an anonymous gift of $2 million to support first-year students entering Catawba for the fall 2021 semester, according to a news release from the school. The scholarships are designated for lower-income students who achieve high academic high school performances.
The Catawba Promise Opportunity Scholarship is intentionally designed to make a four-year residential Catawba College experience possible for every student entering in the 2021-22 academic year, according to Dr. Jared Tice, Senior Vice President for the College Experience and Dean of Students.
