A top House Democrat is working with House Speaker Ron Mariano s staff on a comprehensive plan to reopen the State House to staff and the public, according to an email obtained by the News Service.
While most House staff members will continue working remotely and sessions in the near term will continue in their pandemic-era mostly remote format, the announcement of a plan is the first move House leaders have made toward a potential reopening. The email was sent minutes before Gov. Charlie Baker announced the state s plan to lift COVID-19 restrictions by May 29 and end the state of emergency on June 15.

GOOD MORNING, MASSACHUSETTS. Soak up some sunshine!
THE NUMBERS ARE IN Burn rates are rising among Boston’s mayoral candidates, but cash flow is falling.
Five of the six major candidates City Councilors Andrea Campbell, Annissa Essaibi George and Michelle Wu, state Rep. Jon Santiago and former Boston economic development director John Barros brought in less cash in April than March.
Brown-Capped Rosy Finch The brown-capped rosy finch is another endemic bird, and has the smallest range of the three American species of rosy finch. Only found high in the mountains, it breeds above timberline. Nests are usually in crevices with plenty of shade.
Mountain Bluebird The powder-blue male mountain bluebird is considered one of the most beautiful birds in the West, according to Denver Audubon. The birds may nest in tree hollows, holes in cliffs or dirt banks. During winter, mountain bluebirds gather in large flocks, sometimes by the hundreds.
Violet-Green Swallow Although the violet-green swallow might look like a tree swallow, the bird’s green back and purple tail mark it as this passerine species. Its habitat runs along the West Coast from Alaska to Mexico, extending as far east as Montana and Texas.
“We’ve got bush tits, northern flickers
, white and red-breasted nuthatches!” exclaims ten-year-old Marieva O’Neil. Her list of local fowl sounds foul, even pornographic, but it’s simply a small sampling of the birds she’s spotted in her backyard.
“There’s a brown creeper,” she adds. “It’s invisible to adults, but I’m able to see it, especially when it moves to grab a bug.”
O’Neil and her mother live in the Hilltop neighborhood, on what they’d thought was a busy cross street until the pandemic slowed life down. “I’m just surprised that there are so many different birds all around that we’ve never noticed,” admits Marieva’s mother, Lani O’Neil. “The spring blue jays are quite friendly this season, and it’s only our second year we’ve spotted them!”
