COVID-19 ‘Lockdown Hero’ accolade for caring college health workers
Caring lecturers and staff at Coleg Cambria received a Lockdown Hero accolade for supporting students through the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Health and Social Care department at Cambria’s Yale site in Wrexham is among the finalists vying for a prestigious Pearson National Teaching Award.
Nominated by Lowri Jarvis, 17, and fellow learners on the Level 3 course, the team – including Claire Williams, Amy Campbell, Kate Davies, Wendy Fowler, Greg Rae and Stefanie Matthews – were praised for their “outstanding student and wellbeing support during lockdown”.
Lowri, from Wrexham, said their enthusiasm and energy helped the cohort tackle the challenges of COVID-19 over the past 12 months.

NHS launches ‘Op Courage’ veterans’ mental health service
Armed forces veterans suffering a mental health crisis will receive specialist care as part of a new Op Courage service.

Doctors, nurses and other NHS staff will work with military charities to provide therapy, rehab services and, in extreme cases, inpatient care to hundreds of former soldiers, sailors and RAF personnel each year.
Those needing urgent help will receive a same day referral.
The “high intensity” treatment has already been trialled in some areas and will be rolled out across the country by next month as part of Op Courage, which brings together specialist services for veterans.
