Padma Awards 2021 list: India awards 119 persons with civilian honour [details]

President Ram Nath Kovind’s heart winning gesture Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is among 119 recipients whom the government on Monday selected for Padma awards one of the highest civilian awards in the country. The Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday announced the awards that include seven Padma Vibhushan awards, 10 Padma Bhushan awards and 102 Padma Shri awards. The Padma Vibhushan, the country s second highest civilian award, has been conferred on Japan s longest-serving Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the public affairs category. Tamil Nadu s veteran musician and playback singer S.P. Balasubramaniam also got the honour, albeit posthumously. Indian-American physicist Narinder Singh Kapany, best known for his work on fibre optics, has also been awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously.

Dr Hegde was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010 and was the recipient of the prestigious Dr B C Roy award in 1999. He has authored several books on medical practice and ethics. Hegde will be conferred Padma Vibushan for his work in the area medicine, India s second-highest civilian award while Jnanapeeta awardee Chandrashekhara Kambara was bestowed Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Kannada literature.

One of the tallest Dalit leaders from Bihar and the founder of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Paswan passed away on October 8 last year, just ahead of the crucial Bihar assembly polls. He had undergone heart surgery days before his death.
