The medical officer of health for Windsor-Essex doubts local pandemic restrictions will ease further any time soon with COVID-19 cases on the rise once again.
Recent data presented by Dr. Wajid Ahmed on Friday showed a slight increase in the region’s infection rate following a weeks-long downward trend. While he attributed the jump to a large outbreak among Windsor’s homeless population, the numbers indicate COVID-19 cases would otherwise be holding steady at best.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is seeking volunteers with medical backgrounds to help them get needles into arms this year.
Although the region remains in Phase 1 of the province’s three-phase COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan, health unit officials say they may need support from residents with health-care know-how when mass inoculation begins.
The local medical officer of health is encouraging residents to keep following public health measures, even as some restrictions in the region lift next week.
