Novel Coronavirus In Nevada: Tuesday, May 11, 2021 6:12 p.m. | May 11, 2021 Head Of Washoe County Health District Supports Vaccine Requirements For Students By KUNR Staff Washoe County’s top public health official said he supports COVID-19 vaccination requirements before students can return to school this fall.  According to KRNV, Washoe County Health Officer Kevin Dick said it’s a way to protect students and staff from the coronavirus.    School officials said they’ll support the health district’s recommendation on the matter.  The Nevada System of Higher Education also recently announced plans to draft a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for students returning this fall.

View Comments The Washoe County Health District and Reno Aces are partnering to offer COVID-19 vaccines to fans during the opening day game Thursday. This is an exciting opportunity for fans to be able to get vaccinated right there at the game, while enjoying the game. And they can move their arms around while cheering the Aces, Kevin Dick, district health officer, said in a press briefing Thursday morning.  The vaccination station will be located behind concourse 115 in the stadium and will run for the entirety of the game, according to a press release from the Reno Aces. They will also be offering the free vaccines during Friday s game.

Officials add Vegas to Nevada areas with India virus variant LAS VEGAS (AP) The Las Vegas area has been added to places in Nevada where authorities have detected cases of a potentially worrisome strain of the coronavirus found in India. A woman in her 20s who had not traveled recently and was not vaccinated against COVID-19 tested positive for a variant subtype officially known as B.1.617.2, the Southern Nevada Health District reported Tuesday. No additional cases of the variant were reported Wednesday, district spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore said. The woman did not require hospital treatment, and an investigation aimed to identify people she came in contact with, the district said.
