Washoe County Health District Officer Kevin Dick supports requiring COVID-19 vaccines for K-12 students once the immunizations receive full approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Dick said he was also in support of plans to require the vaccines of University of Nevada, Reno, and Truckee Meadows Community College students as soon as the fall semester.
The Nevada System of Higher Education announced last week it was drafting plans to make it mandatory once the drugs were approved for full use.

The Washoe County Health District is reporting 60 COVID-19 variants in the region, including four cases of the B.1.617 variant first identified in India.
Nonetheless, District Health Officer Kevin Dick said on Thursday that COVID-19 trends in Washoe County continue to be encouraging. The seven-day moving average of daily new cases has fallen to 39. That’s down from a high of nearly 500 in late November following Thanksgiving.
