Tragic Child Death Prompts Reminder about Child Car Seats

Tragic Child Death Prompts Reminder about Child Car Seats Last week’s tragic auto accident between Missoula and Lolo that claimed the life of a 10 year-old Florence boy has prompted Safe Kids Missoula to offer timely advice about child safety seats in vehicles. Operations and Program Manager Kevi Berger said that children should be buckled into a safety seat every trip, every time. “The big takeaway is you can have a trip to the grocery store or you can go into school or drive long distances and we just want to make sure that parents and families have access to the information and the resources to keep the children safe,” said Berger. “I think a lot of people don t really know that, or if they do know then maybe they re not as aware because our kids are taller or they re heavier, but you really need to keep children under the age of 13 in the backseat because that s where they are the safest.”

A Child s Tragic Death in a House Fire Prompts Safety Warnings

A Child’s Tragic Death in a House Fire Prompts Safety Warnings A child in the community of Hall, Montana was killed in a house fire in December, and Safe Kids Missoula sends sincere condolences to the grieving family. Executive Director Kevi Berger of Safe Kids Missoula is taking the opportunity to point out measures that every family should take to keep children and others safe in a house fire. “Unfortunately, a family did lose a child due to a home fire,” said Berger. “Among all preventable injuries, fires and burns are the fifth leading cause of death for children ages 19 and under, and so, both Safe Kids.org and Safe Kids Worldwide, kind of our mother ship and our Safe Kids Missoula organization just want to make sure that we were able to get out information about safety and ways to protect our children.”

Online auction raises funds for patients with cancer

The Foundation for Community Health is holding a fundraiser to help support the care of cancer patients. The Community Oncology Fund provides care-related costs for patients undergoing cancer treatment. The annual Community Cup Hockey Benefit usually helps raise this money, but was cancelled due to COVID-19. In it s place, the non-profit is holding an online auction next week. Operation and Program Manager, Kevi Berger, said the funds will also go toward transportation costs and medication that patients otherwise might not afford. If you ve lost your job, or you ve had your benefits cut, or you have to go in for a bunch of testing and your insurance doesn t cover it, Berger said. That just adds more stress and more to a patients load, when really all they should be doing is sitting back and trying to get healthy.
