On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, the Commissioners approved the St. Mary’s County Nonprofit Relief Fund. St. Mary’s County recognizes that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused economic hardship for many nonprofits. To provide local relief from this hardship, St. Mary’s County has activated the Nonprofit Relief Fund for entities in all categories of IRS 501(c) designation with a physical location in the County.
The new grant program will have a maximum budget of $375,000. The goal is to provide grants to support nonprofits that have experienced adverse economic impacts resulting from COVID-19 and/or other circumstances that impact the nonprofit’s ability to provide programs and/or services.

The Commissioners have approved the St. Mary’s County Hotel Relief Fund to provide grants to local hotels and other lodging facilities. The Commissioners recognize the COVID-19 pandemic has caused economic hardship for many businesses and to provide local relief from this hardship, have activated the Hotel Relief Fund for hotels and bed-and-breakfast establishments. Grants will be processed through the Department of Economic Development.
The grant program will have a maximum budget of $371,000. The goal is to provide grants to support St. Mary’s based lodging establishments (hotels and bed and breakfasts).
Grants may be used for
Normal operating costs, such as rent, payroll, job training, taxes, debt service or similar costs

The Commissioners approved round two of the St. Mary’s County Restaurant Relief Fund during their meeting on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Recognizing that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused economic hardship for many small businesses, St. Mary’s County has activated the Restaurant Relief Fund for foodservice establishments during this time. The second round of the grant program will have a maximum budget of $470,000. The goal is to provide grants to support St. Mary’s County restaurants (full service and carry out licenses), caterers, food trucks, and bars that serve food.
