More than 30,000 pounds of food will be available to Volusia County residents in need Friday in Orange City.
The nonprofit Backpack Buddies of Orange City will be distributing food in a drive-thru format at PFC Emory L. Bennett Veterans Memorial Park, 1365 Veterans Memorial Parkway, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until noon or until supplies run out.
Attendees will be asked to drive up and pop their trunks open so volunteers can place bags of perishable and nonperishable food items inside the vehicles. The sustained impact of the pandemic means families are still struggling with food challenges, said Kelli Marks, president and founder of Backpack Buddies.
A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
Marie was born on Jan. 22, 1945, at Ventura, California, to Harold and Ruth Clausen of Ojai, California. She was the youngest child and had two older brothers, Jerald and Robert Clausen. Marie grew up in Ojai and graduated from Nordhoff High in 1962. She went on to graduate from Community College in Ventura.
Marie met her husband of 56 years, Louis Eugene Marks, on a blind date for the formal company Christmas party. On their second date, Louis took Marie quail hunting in the mountains above Ojai, kicking off a lifetime of love, and they have been inseparable ever since.
