Wilton voters raised the proposed budget by $30,000 for increased police salaries to attract and retain police officers during Town Meeting on Thursday
Wilton voters met outside on Thursday evening in front of Florence Rideout Elementary School, to complete the in-person Town Meeting, which was set at a later date than usual due to COVID-19 considerations.
The first matter of business for the town was the budget, set this year at $5,259,397. However, after an introduction to the proposed budget, Police Chief Eric Olesen proposed a $30,000 addition, to be used for police salaries. He said police departments across the state are in a “critical situation” in trying to hire and retain officers.

The Wilton Select Board voted Monday to continue to require masking on all town properties, including the Town Hall and Recycling Center, despite the statewide mask mandate’s expiration last Friday.
The statewide mandate was retired by Governor Chris Sununu last week, making New Hampshire the first state in the Northeast to do so, with border states like Massachusetts continuing their rules for mandated face covering.
Town Administrator and Town Health Officer Paul Branscombe told the board during its Monday meeting that positive cases of COVID-19 are rising in Wilton.
In March, the town had a recorded 28 positive cases, and in April, as of April 19, there were 27 positive cases recorded – about 25% of the total 203 positive cases the town has seen since the start of the pandemic.

PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) â Traffic flow and road design are just a couple of things that can make or break economic development for an entire city. It s something that s happening right now in Pontiac, but the city is looking to change that as they work to reconstruct the Woodward loop from a one-way street to a two-way street.
It was back in 1962 that Woodward was transformed into a one-way loop around the city. The hope was it would loop around a mall or department stores and get people to these stores quickly and efficiently.
