FAST RESPONSE: Two suspects were arrested in Rosedale after a shop-owner was robbed on Wednesday Image: ELVIS NTOMBELA A rapid response from police in Kariega (formerly Uitenhage) resulted in the arrest of two robbery suspects after a Rosedale shop-owner was held at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon. Police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart said the incident happened at about 3.30pm shortly after three people entered the shop in Falcon Street. While they pretended to buy airtime, one of them drew a firearm and threatened the shop-owner.
“The suspects demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, cellphones and the shop’s airtime machine.

A 27-year-old Kamesh man will undergo psychological evaluation after allegedly beating his mother to death with a gas bottle on Thursday night.
According to police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart, the incident occurred at about 9pm and detectives are yet to determine a motive for the attack.
“Police attended to a complaint of assault at a house in the McCarthy informal settlement and found a woman with an open wound on her head.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his 56-year-old mother in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape.
The suspect was caught at the crime scene on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Gerda Swart says officers attended to a complaint of assault at the house in McCarthy informal settlement.
A woman was found with an open wound to her head and she was declared dead on the scene.
