Two Queensland teenagers charged after alleged assault on elderly woman
Two Queensland teenagers have been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman in her 70s and stealing a car from her Cairns home overnight.
Police allege a group of four teenagers approached the woman s Perseverance Street, Redlynch address just after 12am Monday and knocked on the door.
The group allegedly knocked over the woman as she opened the door before threatening her with a knife, demanding her car keys and taking off in her Subaru Forester.
Police located the Forester about three hours later and arrested a group of teenagers found nearby.

Brisbane and Moreton Bay will remain in lockdown for a fourth day, but there has been a reprieve for other Queensland local government areas, which will come out of lockdown as scheduled on Friday evening.
Residents in Noosa, the Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, the Gold Coast, the Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, the Somerset region and Townsville will come out of lockdown at 6pm.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said five new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Queensland on Friday.
“We’re not out of the woods yet, we’ve got another 24 hours to go to see what happens over the next 24 hours, and we’ll update you tomorrow in relation to whether or not we can lift that lockdown,” she said on Thursday.
“But it is very, very encouraging news at this stage.”
The receptionist’s brother tested positive earlier this week but three other contacts have tested negative.
However, Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said it was too early to be confident there would not be more cases connected to the hospital receptionist.
