Ghanem wore many hats he was an actor, entertainer and most importantly a comedian.
His career spanned six decades, and his many roles made him a household name.
He will be remembered above all for his role as the beloved Fatota, a short man in a bright green oversized suit and large yellow shoes who hosted Ramadan riddles (Fawazeer) for the first time in 1982.
Ghanem first gained popularity in the 1960s as a member of the standup comedy trio Tholathy Adwa’a El-Masrah (Stage Lights Trio) with comedians George Sidhom and El Deif Ahmed.
One of Ghanem’s most notable roles was playing Masoud in the Hassan Abd Al-Salam-directed 1978 drama “Al-Motazawegoon” (The Married Couples) alongside fellow Stage Lights Trio member Sidhom.

When Lebanese filmmaker Wissam Tanios heard his cousins, Jamil and Milad Khawam of Syria, were leaving for Europe in 2015, he reached for his camera as a way to cope. Documenting their departure was meant to stave off an encroaching sense of loss. Little did Tanios know he had begun working on his first feature film.
We Are From There is a documentary that is as much about preserving lifelong relationships as it is about dealing with loss and change. The film, showing at Cinema Akil in Dubai on Wednesday, took five years to make and stitches together recent footage with old family videos, even those taken by a mobile phone from the brothers journey. The end result is a multi-textural experience that goes against the grain of the stereotyped refugee narrative.

Cairo – The U.S. Embassy in Cairo is partnering with photography hub Photopia to welcome three American photographers to Egypt for the second annual Cairo Photo Week from March 11 – 20, 2021.
The diverse group of photographers includes Maggie Steber, documentary photographer and one of National Geographic Magazine’s 2013 Women of Vision; Shamayim Shacaro, fashion and beauty photographer; and Felix Kunz, portrait expert. They will be joined virtually by two other award-winning American photography experts: Peter DiCampo, photojournalist and co-founder of The Everyday Projects non-profit, and Emma Raynes, from the Magnum Foundation. These experts will share their knowledge during Cairo Photo Week’s workshops, master classes, and exhibitions in historical downtown Cairo.
