AUGUSTA City officials are seeking a federal grant to try a new approach, modeled after a program used by the Waterville Police Department, to help Augusta residents with substance use disorder enter treatment and to reduce the growing number of drug overdose deaths.
The proposed program would be based out of the Augusta Fire Department, and have a beginning budget of about $250,000 for an 18-month pilot project.
City councilors voted last week to authorize the city to apply for the grant through the office of U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-1st District. The deadline to apply is Monday.
Downtown Augusta Officially Welcomes Wrapped Up Coffee House
Today was a big day for Wrapped Up Coffee House, as several local businesses came together to welcome them to downtown Augusta officially. Wrapped Up sandwich shop has been local to Augusta for a few years now, but Wrapped Up Coffee House is owners Ryan and Amanda s newest adventure.
Wrapped Up Coffee House has many offerings, from all sorts of coffee options, freshly made pastries and even scrumptious breakfast sandwiches. One of my favorite things about this cute little coffee house is their love for providing their customers with locally made foods from all across Maine. Oh, and their exceptional customer service.
Amanda and Ryan Hill own a wrap shop near the Memorial Circle rotary in Augusta, but they d always had their eye on downtown. That dream was about to come true a year ago when a closing on Water Street space was canceled as the pandemic hit.
Timing is never good the young couple have two toddlers and have worked hard to keep the sandwich shop open the past year but when the Hills had another chance this spring on a downtown space this spring, they didn t hesitate. I ve been wanting to be down here since we moved here five years ago, Ryan Hill said Tuesday as he and Amanda set up for Wednesday s ribbon-cutting at Wrapped Up Coffee House, 216 Water St.
