Central Maine hospitals receive hundreds of doses of Moderna vaccine for COVID-19 Officials at hospitals in Skowhegan, Augusta and Pittsfield reported receiving shipments Tuesday of the Moderna vaccine and planned to begin inoculating health care workers on Wednesday. Redington-Fairview General Hospital, shown Tuesday in Skowhegan, has received a shipment of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19. Rich Abrahamson/Morning Sentinel Frontline workers at Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan will be receiving the first of two doses of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19 on Wednesday morning after shipments arrived. Lisa Caswell, director of pharmacy at Redington-Fairview, confirmed on Tuesday that the hospital would be receiving 500 doses of the vaccine and will be offered to front-line workers. The shipment comes as the coronavirus vaccines continue to be distributed to health care workers across Maine.

Her leadership begins at a critical time for the community and in RHW’S 27-year history. White will succeed Jeanne Thorvaldsen, who is transitioning to a part-time role as RHW’s development director, according to a news release from the organization. Maine high school swim teams prepare for a season unlike any other Coaches will have to find creative ways to motivate swimmers, including competing in virtual meets, during pandemic. Share  Bob Johnston has coached high school swimmers since the 1970s, but nothing in his career prepared him for what he’ll encounter this season. Johnston and his Cony swim team began individualized workouts last week at the Kennebec Valley YMCA in Augusta. Johnston said the Rams have 15 swimmers this year, and with eight lanes to practice in, they can spread swimmers out to comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines. “Last week was pretty much dedicated to what’s called ‘skills and drills,’ which was mandated to us by the MPA” Johnston said. “We coaches were on deck, we were all masked. The Y does an interesting thing, they kind of lock down the whole pool area. The kids have to come in one door, they get checked for symptoms, they get their temperatures checked when they come through

KVCOG hires community planner, community and economic development specialist

(Photo courtesy Kennebec Valley Council of Governments) The Kennebec Valley Council of Governments (KVCOG) has announced that Charles Tetelman and Jeff Sneddon have joined the team. “KVCOG is excited to have Charles and Jeff join the team,” said Joel Greenwood, interim executive director and program director for KVCOG, in a news release. They both bring with them experience and enthusiasm that, together with KVCOG’s team and programs, will enhance the region and the lives of those who live here”  Charles Tetelman joined the Kennebec Valley Council of Governments as the Community Planner in October of 2020. Tetelman helps regional and municipal planning efforts regarding land use, comprehensive planning, ordinance development, and GIS management and analysis.

Since the club reopened, it has been providing critical childcare and remote learning for as many as 300 children. Currently, 67 percent of children who attend the club have parents who are essential workers.
