A Popular Kenduskeag Canoe Race Area Will Be Closed To Spectators

The Kenduskeag Canoe Race will be different this year for both paddlers and spectators. After scrapping the event last year, Bangor Parks and Recreation recently announced the 2021 Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race is a-go. Race day is set for Saturday, April 17. Registration for the race is now open. With COVID-19 in mind, the race will be different for those participating in the event and watching it. For some spectators, a big change this year will be where to watch the race. In a typical year, hundreds of spectators watch from along the banks of the 16.5 mile Kenduskeag Stream route. A popular area to watch the thrills of the spills, or the few who navigate through, is Six Mile Falls. The only optional portage of the race will be closed to spectators this year. Onlookers who watch from other locations along the stream are asked to wear masks, and practice social distancing.
