Five homes in Newton were broken into on Friday night, according to police. It s the latest string of break-ins reported in the Massachusetts city.
Four of the five homes were unoccupied during the break-ins, which took place between 7:45 p.m. and 9:50 p.m., Friday night, according to a news release from Newton police Saturday.
The homes that were broken into are located on Highland Avenue, Warwick Road and Kensington Street in West Newton, as well as Clarendon Street in Newtonville and Chapel Street in Nonantum.

The winner’s photo will be displayed on a billboard in Chippendale, a trendy neighborhood on the southern edge of the Central Business District defined by a cutting-edge art scene and ultra-modern converted warehouses. There, it will be seen by locals and visitors frequenting the galleries around Abercrombie Street, shopping along Kensington Street, and picnicking on the Chippendale Green.

Jack Coughlin’s campaign against litter, particularly “nip” liquor bottles, has gained national recognition, even as he remains confined to a hospital bed.
On Thursday, Coughlin was awarded the Pat Franklin Courageous Spirit Award from the Container Recycling Institute, a California-based nonprofit. He was paralyzed in January after being struck by a car while picking up roadside trash in Agawam.
Coughlin, who turned 78 in the days after the collision, was well-known in town for walking the streets every day, picking up litter. He was also an activist for environmental and sportsmen’s causes, and one of the leaders in efforts to improve the Medina Street boat ramp in Chicopee. While raising a family in Springfield, Coughlin had also been active in neighborhood associations in East Forest Park and Sixtee
A FORMER allotment site in Keighley is set to be transformed into an industrial development. Outline plans have been approved for four light industrial units on the land, at the junction of Kensington Street and Goulbourne Street – near Holycroft Primary School. An application for the 1,970-square-metre site was submitted to Bradford Council late last year by Parkside Properties. Planning officers said the scheme would create “welcome” employment. They added that it was unclear when the overgrown site was last used, but a similar planning application received 18 years ago described the land as “abandoned”.
