The Jefferson County Attorney’s office says lawyers for The Courier Journal have misstated the record in their fight to get hundreds of thousands of documents from the disbanded Louisville Metro Police Explorer program for youths interested in law enforcement.  And County Attorney Mike O’Connell’s office is asking for permission to file a friend-of-the-court brief defending his office s honor in The Courier Journal s suit.  But Courier Journal attorney Jon Fleischaker says the county attorney should be barred from filing what is known as an amicus brief because it is intimately involved in the litigation and handled it for nearly a year before being forced to withdraw amidst serious questions concerning its own conduct.”

Judge denies early release for ex-Louisville cop serving prison time in sex abuse case Billy Kobin, Louisville Courier Journal © Marty Pearl/Special to Courier Journal Kenneth Betts was sentenced at the Jefferson County Circuit Court on Monday morning for his role in the LMPD Explorer Scout scandal. 7/8/19 LOUISVILLE, Ky.   Former Louisville Metro Police officer Kenneth Betts, serving a 16-year sentence for his actions in the Explorer Scout program sex abuse case, requested a compassionate release from federal prison over COVID-19 fears, but a judge denied the motion this week. Betts, now 36, was sentenced in 2019 on federal child pornography and enticement charges related to him luring teens from across Kentucky into having sex with him.

Thu, 03/04/2021 - 10:58am sarahp FRANCES ANN (WISELL) SULLIVAN PANTON Frances Ann (Wisell) Sullivan, 78 of Panton, passed away peacefully at Helen Porter Health and Rehab in Middlebury, Vt., on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021. “Ann” was born on July 25, 1942, in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of Dr. George P. and Mrs. Frances M. (McAuliffe) Wisell. She attended schools in Vergennes, and was a proud member of the first graduating class at Vergennes Union High School (VUHS) in 1960, where she was voted most popular and most versatile. She also was named DAR Good Citizen. It is no surprise to anyone that these accolades so early in her life would truly define her legacy. She then went on to graduate from Trinity College in 1964 with a B.A. in Language Arts.
